What We Believe

At FBC The Colony, we believe in the importance of doctrine based on God's divine revelation of Himself through Scripture. Here we have summarized our core beliefs and believe that the following statement of faith accurately represents the teaching of God's Word.

Learn More about WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each with distinct personal attributes, without division of nature, essence or being.

We believe that from eternity God decrees or permits all things that come to pass, and perpetually upholds, directs and governs all creatures and all events; yet not in any way to be the author or approver of sin nor to destroy the will and responsibility of mankind.

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious, substitutionary, and atoning death for all who come to Him in repentance and faith for salvation, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential; and that the present ministry of the Holy Spirit indwells the Christian, enabling a godly life; that He dispenses spiritual gifts to the body of Christ as He wills, and that He seals the Christian for the day of redemption.

We believe in the existence of holy angels, of Satan as a personal spiritual being and the enemy of all that is good, of demons who follow Satan’s rebellion against God, all of whom are under the supreme authority of God Almighty.

We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His own image, were literal persons, and because of the temptation of Satan they sinned against God, and that the entire human race has inherited a corrupt nature wholly opposed to God, depraved and spiritually dead. We are sinners by nature, birth, and divine decree.

We believe all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of immeasurable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

We believe God ordained marriage as a permanent and exclusive union of one man and one woman. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Jesus reaffirmed marriage as a sacred, monogamous, and life-long institution joining one man and one woman.

We believe some individuals reject their God-given biological sex and often present themselves as the opposite sex. In so doing these confused individuals reject God’s design and the person He created them to be. Any form of sexual immorality (including but not limited to adultery, pedophilia, fornication, polygamy, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, cross-dressing, and use of pornography) is sinful, offensive to God, many of which are an abomination to Him, and leads to the disintegration of a society.

We believe eternal salvation occurs based upon the electing, regenerating work of God and our willing response to the gospel call whereby we repent of our sins and place our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

We believe God offers and bestows redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin by faith, through God’s mercy and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. We reject any hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual because they are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of this church. Speaking the truth in love about sinful behavior is not hateful nor is it harassing since by the truth we are set free and saved from our sin by God.

We believe the Lord Jesus is the head of the universal Church, which is composed of all true believers in the past and present. We also affirm the local church as the expression of His body in the world so long as it remains faithful to His gospel. The officers of a local church are Biblically qualified men who serve as Elders (or Pastors), and Deacons. Baptism is the immersion of a believer under water in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial that proclaims the Lord’s death and participation is open to all true Christians. Both are ordinances instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the imminent, physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. We believe heaven and hell are literal places of eternal conscious existence.
